This page states plainly what a reading on Tenmeia is, what it is not, and where our version of the calculation departs from what a professional practitioner would do. We would rather tell you this before you read a result than bury it afterwards.
Tenmeia explains and implements several Eastern divination systems — BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny), Sanmei-gaku, Nine Star Ki and Japanese name divination. We offer them as frameworks for self-reflection and as entertainment. They are old, internally consistent ways of describing temperament and tendency, and they are interesting on those terms. They are not empirically validated methods of predicting events, and we do not present them as such.
Nothing on this site is medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, financial, investment, tax, employment or relationship advice. No reading here should be used to decide whether to take or stop a medication, whether to enter or leave a relationship, whether to hire or dismiss anyone, whether to make or avoid an investment, or how to respond to a legal or health problem. If a decision matters, consult someone qualified to advise on it. If you are in distress or crisis, please contact a medical professional or a local support service rather than a divination site.
We show our working throughout the site, and that includes showing where we cut corners. The simplifications below are deliberate, and they are the main reason a Tenmeia result can differ from a professional one.

We verify our arithmetic against known reference dates, and we correct errors when they are reported. We still make no warranty that any result is accurate, complete or suitable for any purpose.
Some traditional readings are blunt, fatalistic, or unkind about particular birth dates, names and combinations. We do not reproduce that register. Where a tradition states an outcome as fixed, we present it as a tendency worth being aware of. We will not tell you that a person is bad for you, that a date is unlucky, that a name will damage a child, or that anything about your life is settled in advance.
These readings must not be used to screen, rank, exclude or discriminate against anyone — in hiring, in tenancy, in lending, in admissions, in medical or care decisions, or in choosing whom to associate with. Using a birth date or a name as a proxy for a person's character or worth is both unsupported and, in many places, unlawful.
Nothing here promises a result, an improvement, a change in fortune, or any particular experience. Any decision you take after reading something on this site remains yours, and we accept no liability for it, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
